Problems of Account Destruction

I have recently received a few troobleshooting requests from MLC
and Double Eagle players. The main problem was a destruction
of their MLE account. This destruction could be :
A - complete (nothing left at all)
B - partial (only the login, or only the credit amount, etc...)

Problem A

To avoid losing your account, you must know that is is stored
ONLY on Cookies, that is to say on a small text file contained by
YOUR browser. It cannot be read by another website, it cannot
be executed, it cannot contain virus-like programs, and even I cannot
have access to your Cookies through the MLE website. They are
yours, and only yours.

Moreover the Cookies files are stored in a temporary directory (in particular
on MSIE). So if you empty this directory you'll delete all your Cookies
including the ones containing your account. So, if you want to keep
your account intact, do NOT destroy your cookie files and do NOT
empty your temporary internet files blindly.

Once the Cookies have been lost, the only way to restore your
account is to create another. Don't forget that new accounts are
usually created only once per week.

Problem B

I think I have found the origin of problem B. Some browsers cannot
handle too many Cookies from a single website and both snippet and
richie used many of them. The result was that old Cookies (login,
password, etc...) could be crushed by the games Cookies, destroying
some infos on the account itself.

That's why DE pages have been offline for a couple of days (not
counting multiples FTP problems with libertysurf...). I think I have
fixed problem B for existing accounts. Both games now use only
a few Cookies and DE pages are now deleting useless Cookies
from previous versions of these games. This will reduce the number
of Cookies used by the Double Eagle and it should end this account
destruction problem.

However, I cannot restore Cookies once they have been crushed
so I cannot restore damaged accounts. Once again, the only solution
is to delete it entirely (see the Special Operations page) and to create
a brand new one.

Conclusion

In order to use the latest version of these games, my advice would
be to empty your cache directory (once again take care of your cookies !)
and to activate the "Auto-Check for Update" feature of your web browser. Then
you will always use the latest version of the MLE software.

Lastly, I will soon add an "Anonymous Guest" feature that will not require
account validation code. This account will allow you to play all games
but you won't be able to get Richie High Score codes nor to buy printed
promo cards, nor to subscribe to the booster pack mailing.
